What a Responsible Demo Announcement Should Actually Confirm

Report access, scope, and limitations without turning aspirations into present-tense features.

Separate available from planned

A clear gaming announcement tells readers what they can access now and what remains a proposal. Before describing a Firebreak Command demo, verify the destination, supported platform, access requirements, and the material actually included. If any detail is unknown, say so or omit it. Do not transform a roadmap, screenshot, or development intention into a present-tense feature claim. The same care applies to pricing and release status: an announcement should not imply that a paid game is live unless that fact has been confirmed.

Match the page to the product

itch.io's creator quality guidelines emphasize accurate project representation, metadata, platforms, and tags, and warn against misleading content. Those principles offer a practical checklist for project news even outside itch.io. Describe observed functionality separately from desired improvements. A shared-viewing exercise does not establish online multiplayer, and an informal group discussion does not amount to a tested network feature. Screenshots should illustrate the relevant material rather than suggest a larger or more complete experience than the evidence supports. Accuracy is more useful than inflated scope.

Publish limits as useful information

Readers benefit from knowing what an announcement does not establish. A demo is not automatically representative of a final release, a community conversation is not an independent review, and firefighter themes do not establish department certification. If the post invites discussion, explain which questions the available material can reasonably answer. Do not promise press coverage, future updates, or specific improvements without verified commitments. A responsible announcement can still be engaging: it gives readers a concrete reason to look while preserving the difference between current evidence, personal interpretation, and future possibility.

Bring it to your crew

Which announcement detail do you most often find missing: access, scope, platform, limitations, or the distinction between planned and available?
