The Two-Minute Brief Before a Demo Discussion

Choose a purpose, participation rules, and a stopping point before the commentary begins.

Choose one purpose

A demo gathering can drift between entertainment, critique, competition, and informal instruction without anyone noticing the change. Start by naming the purpose. Are participants exploring a game, reviewing clarity, or practicing how to explain decisions? For a Firebreak Command discussion, choose one primary question and keep other observations in a separate list. If no playable demo is available to the group, use verified footage or postpone hands-on claims. A meeting plan should never imply access, functionality, or testing that participants have not actually confirmed.

Set expectations for participation

AHRQ describes briefs as a way to establish goals, roles, plans, and operational constraints in health care teams. Adapt only the meeting structure: identify who is presenting, who wants to comment, how questions will be collected, and when the session ends. Decide whether interruptions are welcome or whether feedback waits until a natural stopping point. Make observation a legitimate form of participation. People should not need to compete for airtime or pretend familiarity with a game to remain included in the discussion.

Close the loop at the end

Return to the original question before opening a general wish list. Ask what the group learned, what remains uncertain, and which comments depend on unverified assumptions. A short session can be worthwhile even when it produces only one clear observation. Record proposed changes as suggestions rather than existing Firebreak Command features. This format is recreational communication practice, not a certified training program, an operational assessment, or a substitute for department procedures. The brief succeeds when participants understand what they are doing together and can evaluate the conversation against that limited purpose.
